Spring is for chumps.

Many people find the first warm days of spring to be an almost religious experience. We are surrounded by nature in the process of renewal, our skin is bathed in the warmth of the sun...it is as if we are flowers, poking our chilly heads out of the wintery soil to find that things have changed for the better.

Aizay thinks that's a diaper-load. Sitting on the crispy, still-dormant grass is like a trip to the mall--it seems like a good idea when you leave the house, but when you're actually there it proves to be somewhat unpleasant. He now sees he should have stayed home (where all surfaces are soft and fluffy, or smoothly man-made), and he expresses his regret by wimpering softly.

He did warm up to it after a while, but he never seemed quite comfortable with the whole grass thing. One way I know this: he did not attempt to put any leaves, sticks, or blades of grass into his mouth. If one of those things happened to adhere to his hand (and that would be through no fault of his, no, certainly not), he would look at his hand with mild horror. Posted by Hello

Bling, bling.

Yesterday an amazing package arrived from Guam. Aizay's cousins Jeremy and Jonah sent him a package filled with Duplos! Aizay was very excited because now he has many more things to bang together. Thanks, boys (and thank your parents for us, too)! Posted by Hello

Can you hear me now?

"Do you mind? This is an important phone call, which I simply must take in the nude."

Aizay knows which of his parents' possessions are most prized, and tries to get them in his hot little hands (and mouth) whenever he can. These include cell phones, remote controls and books. Above all others, these objects fascinate him the most. So we've taken to buying (or collecting) replacements for these desireable items. At this point, he has no fewer than 4 play phones to choose from.

Believe it or not, this may be the first time we let him go au naturale anywhere other than the bath or his changing table. We've been a bit paranoid about accidents. Poop and wall-to-wall carpet don't mix. Or rather they do. Posted by Hello

He likes cherry pie and black coffee, too.

Aizay is a big fan of Twin Peaks. I think he wants to be Agent Dale Cooper when he grows up. Posted by Hello

Great, soon he'll be asking for shoes.

Aizay has confessed to us his desire to climb Mt. Everest. We told him absolutely not. It would wear a hole in the knees of his pants, crawling all that way. So he said, fine, I'll learn to walk. Here we are at step one...standing with help. He can pull himself up very well, although after a few triumphant moments he usually falls over and bumps his head on the floor. Doesn't seem to stop him from trying, though. Posted by Hello

Those other babies were wimps.

It was an amazing, sunny 65 degrees yesterday, so we decided to go to the park downtown. Aizay hasn't been outside much since winter began, and I doubt he remembers anything before winter, so it was a treat for everyone. Unfortunately, upon meeting the other babies in the park, Aizay decided to assert his baby dominance by challenging them each to arm wrestle him. By the end of the day he was 5-and-1. But the kid he lost to was at least 9 months old if he was a day. Posted by Hello

Even bald eagles don't mess with him.

Being an Internet celebrity is not without its bonuses. Here we see Aizay being treated to a manicure by Madam Mommy, the proprietor of Spa D'Etler. Generally, Aizay goes in for a touchup right after he claws off part of someone's face with his razor-sharp talons. Posted by Hello

So begins the lifelong butt-flattening process.

Aiden is a sitting pro, at this point. After 3 days of practice, he can do it for minutes at a time without falling over. Other things he can do: pulls himself up in his crib, pulls himself up by your pantleg, and makes a tasty souffle. He's still a little wobbly with the souffle, but they are falling less and less often. Posted by Hello
