Food, glorious food!

Aizay's getting his first tastes of solid food this week. We started with bananas, which he seems to like...although at first he acted like he didn't quite know what to do with it once it was actually in his mouth. Sometimes he gags, but he always comes back for more.

I must say that my feeding technique, which involves first persuading him to grab something other than the spoon, then feeding him the bananas while diligently scraping the excess away, results in less mess than Christine's. Her technique seems to involve spreading the food to an even depth of an eighth of an inch all over his face.Posted by Hello

Meet the Family, Part 1

This week, we made the pilgrimage home to introduce our boy to our friends and family. I don't know why we had to go back East...I think it would have been lots easier to have them come see us. If you think that's rude, then you've never traveled with a baby. More on that in a moment.

Here's Aizay and Christine demonstrating the fancy trolley we bought to help us roll Aizay through airports. We decided that we wanted to buy a seat for him on the plane. This made us feel really good about flying with Aizay. We don't want to denegrate the choice of flying without a carseat--that's up to those parents, but we would have hated to hit turbulance and lost our grip on Aizay just because we weren't willing to pay for the ticket). On the other hand, it was a pain in the tush to install the carseat in the plane.

One of the few times we let Aizay out of his seat. Aiden found the airphone fascinating. I think he thought it was a tiny TV. He was no problem at all on the flight, but if you think leaving the house takes twice as long, getting on or off an airplane is just glacial. We changed planes in Chicago, which means we had to get Aizay on and off the plane 4 times. Not fun. Did I mention his seat was a pain in the rear? They should seat all babies and their families in First Class.

Auntie Cyndy got to meet Aizay and give him the once-over at the Barnes & Noble.

Auntie Maura (and the other 20 or so of Christine's family members) sure gave Aizay a lot to think about. I'll tell you, that kind of crowd crammed into a house watching football and giving each other belated Christmas presents can cause noise-induced hearing loss.

For now, that's all the pictures I have. I misplaced my camera after this for a few days, but hopefully some family members who took photos will send me copies (hint, hint).

We're back...

Yes, the publishing empire that is axetler.blogspot.com took a break for a few days so Aizay could visit his relatives back east. Needless to say, there was a lot of Aizay worship going on. When next we post, though, we'll have some new pictures for sure.

A temper?! Impossible!

Look at that face. Would you believe that Lori, his daycare provider, wanted to know, "So, who does he get his temper from?" The answer, of course, is Christine. Let me tell you something, if you happen to be any sort of home appliance or fixture...watch out! Christine will yell at you out big time. Aizay doesn't curse, but sometimes if you listen closely, you can almost hear in his voice all the characters that sit above the numbers on your keyboard.

It's been several days since I posted (sorry Mom), but it snowed, and there was shoveling, and we were also busy with...well, I can't remember what. Something to do with a certain nearly-5-month-old. Posted by Hello

I wouldn't call it crawling yet...

Aizay can get pretty far on his own. He moves by squirming and slithering like a snake. It's too bad this isn't video; then you could see the way his butt goes up and down in the air as he goes along. He got to the gift bag from the playmat in about 10 minutes. He did make a pit stop when he was half-way there to play with his vinyl baby book. He brought it with him all the way to the gift bag by pushing it in front of him. You can just see the book to his left in the right frame of the picture.
