Hey Joan

Aizay loves his jersey. Also, enjoy the photo of Aizay begging for some chocolate from his advent calendar (this is the one I told you about). Posted by Picasa

Christmas collage

Aizay and mommy got matching robes. He also got lots of other fun toys but I think his favorite gift was a Clifford-the-big-red-dog puzzle from the dollar store. Posted by Picasa

"History of the button"?!

Here, Aizay is expressing his anger regarding his blog not making this list of top blogs of 2006Posted by Picasa

Handsome, without the nose nuggets.

I had to Photoshop this one around the nostrils. But it was worth it. Posted by Picasa

Hmmm, Santa asked me what I want for Christmas...

I was put on the spot when I saw Santa so early in the season. When he asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I wasn't quite sure. I have been contemplating and I have made a list you can find here. Or go to www.myregistry.com and search for Aiden Etler. Mama helped me make this registry even though she said some people might think it's tacky. Posted by Picasa

My boy with the 70s hair

This will be the first post in a series of Aizay's latest photo shoot. (The long hair is for Diane. The minute we got home from pictures, he got a haircut.)Posted by Picasa

All I want for Christmas is a nap.

Aizay visited with Santa on Saturday...he wanted to beat the post-Thanksgiving rush. Unfortunately, he was a bit sleep deprived, so Aizay was a bit underwhelmed. It's possible Santa's appeal lay mostly in his big fluffy beard, which perhaps looked like a nice place to lie down. But then Mommy suggested Santa read Aizay a book, and all was right in the world.

Note that this is the real Santa, not some poly-blend-bearded elf with questionable breath and hygeine. Good on ya, Lindale Mall. Posted by Picasa

I want eat dinner and I want eat waffle.

It's Aizay's quote of the week! He said this while in his carseat driving home from daycare. I guess he couldn't wait to get home and have his waffle...but he is not allowed to have waffles for dinner. I have told him a hundred times.

If he had a choice, he would eat a waffle for every meal. I wonder if I let him, would he get sick of waffles and if so, how long would it take?

Space Age Bachelor Pad Aizay

Here is Aizay dancing to a little Esquivel. I don't particularly like Esquivel. I don't listen to Esquivel. But for some reason, I felt strangely compelled to get a picture of Aizay dancing to Esquivel...do not try to make sense of it...

BTW, I love Aizay's outfit here. However, Dave thought this was a preppy outfit. I don't think so. I think he looks like the young, shoegazing English grad students I used to work with at the Princeton Review. They definitely weren't preppies. They smoked and questioned authority.

I used to be stuck in the 80s. I now think I am stuck in the 90s.

Aizay's diapering pals

Upon hearing from his father that it was time to change his diaper, Aizay went to his room, climbed into his crib and retrieved George, Blue and Arthur. He insisted on holding onto them and Elmo while Dave changed his diaper. What a freak. (We must have the only child in the history of the world who has learned how to climb into his crib without learning how to climb out. It worries me that he loves sleep so much...) Posted by Picasa

Far out.

As much as Aizay digs bread, he also digs candy. Halloween is here, and he's a real gone cat. Groovy, hep, and jazzed, baby. Posted by Picasa

Say Paneer!

What did Aizay have for dinner? Saag Paneer on a hamburger roll with some applesauce on the side. (He wouldn't touch his chicken.) Anyway, we made up a song during dinner called "spinach and applesauce" and I wish you could hear it. Aizay sings well and it is very upbeat. Posted by Picasa

Pouting

I have no idea what he was thinking about, here . . . did he just get in trouble for taunting the cat? Was he being told to do something he wasn't much interested in doing? Did we refuse to make him waffles for dinner? We may never know . . . but it's quite possible it was all of these things at the same time, given his attitude lately.

As I write this, Christine is confining him to his room for taunting the cat again. Kid's lucky he's cute. Posted by Picasa

Aizay's Anime Eyes

Here's Aizay's Star Blazers' look. He is very serious because he must succeed in his mission "within one year or mother Earth will disappear"...actually, I think he is angry because I got between him and Blue's Clues to take this picture. Posted by Picasa

Aizay's movie debut

We are toying with the idea of putting videos up here. Here is our first try. This is a video of Aizay "reading" but it has no sound.

Elmo and octopus are getting off the schoolbus and walking on the "sighwalk" (the wide black border surrounding the glass of the coffeetable). I'd never heard him say sidewalk before.

He also tells knock-knock jokes. Here's a great one he told me yesterday:

Aizay: "Kna-knock"

Daddy: "Who's there?"

That's as far as his joke goes, but I'm sure he'll remember the punchline sometime soon.

Aizay is a well child

Aizay had his 2 year well child visit. He is officially completely normal. He is an exemplar of normal. Here's Aizay's stats (height & weight) in case anyone actually cares...These stats don't convey the fact that he is oddly proportioned. He still wears 18 month pants but he needs 2T shirts. The freakishly long Etler torso strikes again...

The cutest boy in the world

Dave likes to say that Aizay is the cutest and most beautiful boy in the world. I am not saying that he is not correct but I am saying that he is a little biased. How can he know for sure? I, personally, recuse myself from such judgements. I like to be a little more realistic.

Other moms would probably see the picture above and delete it automatically with no thought. And after they would say, in their haze of denial, "what picture?" I am posting it as proof that I recognize that my son has his ugly hobbit side. Dave will curse me, I know, but it is impossible for every parent to have the most beautiful child on Earth. (If you want to see her, search google for Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt.)

The potty, Joe and Steve

Christine here. Okay I was browsing the web and I found the story that accompanied this picture:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/30/the-babykeeper-toilet-training-with-visual-aids

When Aizay saw it, he thought it was him. He pointed and said "Aizay! Aizay!" (He says the z now.) This device helps you "store" your child while you use a public restroom. Honestly, I think this is a great idea. The only thing that would have stopped me from using it is my fear of the judgement of others. If Aizay wasn't over the weight limit, I would think about getting it just for some fun around the house.

That get's me thinking of the potty...I have discovered this wonderful yet disturbing video that I hope will inspire Aizay:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=RO85IMi9hno

Aizay loves Blues Clues and now he has learned that the infamous blue puppy herself uses the potty. But everytime I watch this video, I think, "poor Joe". I wonder what the guy's aspirations were when he decided to become an actor. What if he dreamed about being Robert DeNiro in Taxi Driver and this is what he got instead?

Does anyone know if Steve ever sang a potty song with Blue? Steve is much cooler than Joe. I bet if there is a Steve and Blue potty song, it rocks! Just like Steve rocks in real life:
SteveBurns_MightyLittleMan.mov

If you don't know anything about Blues Clues, let me tell you that many of us agree that the show jumped the shark when Steve left to "go to college" and his little brother Joe moved in. I think Aizay prefers Steve too although it's hard to tell. We were out and about the other day and I told him, when we get home, we'll watch Blue's Clues. When we got in the car, he started yelling "Steve! Steve!". I guess he thought I was going to play the DVD for him. So what I did instead was I put in Steve's CD (I am guessing that Steve got kicked out of college because he barely knew how to count and he started drinking, shaved his head and joined a band). Aizay was very confused as I tried to explain to him that the music he was listening to was sung by Steve. I think he finally figured it out. On subsequent car trips, he began to request "Steve". Now it has gotten to the point that if I turn the radio on in the car, he thinks it's Steve. He thinks all rock music is performed by Steve! That makes Steve like some sort of rock superhero or something, right?
...scary...

Here, finally, is the star of this blog, Aizay. He is engrossed by Blue's Clues (and our new foster cat, Jayda, is watching too).

"Let Aiday go!"

Aizay has turned two and with increasing age comes advanced abilities. Aizay has discovered that sentences are useful things. A few weeks ago he asked, "Where Elm[o]?" and that question resulted in his Elmo doll being quickly returned to his hands. I imagine, to him, that it seemed like a new superpower. Now he is making increasing demands and requests. "Where Mama go?", "Daddy wake" (while poking at Dave's face), "I want uppy.", "I want hugs" and finally the sentence above which he uttered while I was trying to hold him still for a picture. Since that wasn't my camera, I will post this picture instead. Here he is thinking about verb conjugation while hanging out at grandma and grandpa's house.
